Narrowboat Volunteers Required

Middleport Pottery / UKHBPT are seeking volunteers to support the maintenance and operation of Dane, one of the last remaining wooden built working narrowboats.

Dane was built at the Mersey Weaver and Ship Canal Carrying Company adjacent to Middleport Pottery in 1946. 70 years after starting her service as a working boat in the Potteries, Dane is now beginning a new life transporting visitors along the historic Trent and Mersey Canal as part of Middleport Pottery’s rich heritage event programme.


Volunteer Call Out

We’re looking to build a new team of volunteers to support us in making Dane a regular addition on the Trent and Mersey and Caldon canals, we need enthusiastic people with the following skills

  • Skipper/Helmsman (Skipper Ticket Desirable)
  • Crew (Visitor Safety and Mooring)
  • General Cleaning and Maintenance
  • Engine Maintenance


Prior experience an advantage but not required.
