VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

If you love heritage, beautiful spaces, meeting new people and have a bit of spare time we’d love to hear from you. Middleport Pottery’s voluntary team contribute enormously to the day-to-day activities on-site, whether it’s on the narrowboat, in our shop, on a factory tour or maintaining our gardens. 

There are a number of opportunities available, please see below. Training will be provided for all the below opportunities.

Communications Assistant

Volunteer Opportunity: Communications Assistant

UKHBPT / Middleport Pottery seeks a volunteer Communications Assistant to support the Communications Manager and Middleport Pottery team across a wide variety of activities.

No previous experience essential, however, the volunteer would require good IT skills, strong written and communication skills and a good understanding of social media.

The volunteer must be able to commit to one day, either a Wednesday or Thursday, per week.

Outline of duties;
Distribute promotional materials
Online communications – web and social media
Administrative and office based tasks
Event support and bookings.

You will be asked to attend a short interview.

Middleport Pottery Retail

We require retail volunteers who can commit to a minimum of 3 hours per week. Previous retail experience desirable but not essential. We welcome applications from people who are disabled for this role.

 

 

Events & Activities

Our events programme is diverse; from Jazz Nights to contemporary art and everything in between. We require friendly and welcoming volunteers to support the visitor experience at these events. This role is diverse and ranges from general on-site support and guidance, visitor welcome, assisting in craft activities or even serving a pint of beer!
 
It is expected that volunteers commit to at least two of our large-scale events a year. Please note: this role will involve volunteering on some weekends and evenings. 
 

 

 

Narrowboat Dane

Current opportunities:

  • Skipper/Helmsman (Skipper Ticket Desirable)
  • Crew (Visitor Safety and Mooring)
  • General Cleaning and Maintenance
  • Engine Maintenance

Unfortunately, all the above positions are not accessible to wheelchair users or those with limited mobility needs.

Factory Tour Guide  

Previous experience is not essential for this role but an understanding of Stoke-on-Trent industrial and social history is desirable. This role involves meeting and greeting customers, guiding them around the site. 

Please note: Factory Tours run on weekdays, Monday to Thursday: 11am and 1.45pm and Fridays 10.30am only.

Unfortunately, the above role is not accessible to wheelchair users or those with limited mobility needs.
